Wellness Isn’t One-Size-Fits-All: The Power of Choosing What You Need Each Day

Wellness Isn’t One-Size-Fits-All: The Power of Choosing What You Need Each Day

There’s no single “right” way to take care of yourself - and maybe that’s what makes wellness so personal, so beautifully human.

When I created my “This or That Mental Health Challenge” for Pinterest - a simple list of choices like journaling or meditation, walking or listening to music, reading a book or watching a movie - I didn’t expect it to resonate with so many people. But I think it did because it reminded us of something we often forget: wellness isn’t about perfection, it’s about awareness.

Every day, we wake up in a different mindset, with different needs. Some mornings, you might crave stillness - the quiet release of journaling or deep breathing. Other days, your energy might call for movement, laughter, or connection. Both are valid. Both are healing.

Each choice in that list reflects something deeper:

  • Journaling or meditation - Do you need to express what’s inside, or sit with it?

  • Talking to friends or spending time alone - Do you need to be heard, or do you need to recharge?

  • Setting boundaries or practicing gratitude - Are you protecting your peace or softening your perspective?

None of these answers are better than the other. They simply guide you back to yourself - to what feels right today.

True self-care isn’t about doing all the right things. It’s about noticing what your body, mind, and heart are asking for - and giving yourself permission to honor that. Some days that looks like bubble baths and meditation; other days, it’s saying “no,” watching a movie, or simply breathing through the moment.

So the next time you’re deciding how to care for yourself, pause and ask: What do I need right now? Not what I think I should need, but what I truly feel.

That answer - what it is - is your version of wellness.
