Time to Recharge Your Life

Time to Recharge Your Life

We’ve all been there - you wake up feeling great, ready to conquer the day, and then by the afternoon, you’re dragging yourself through life like a phone with 5% battery. The culprit? Some are sneaking, others we know are bad but still do. Reality is, these energy drainers are draining you to 5% rather quickly, and it’s time to recharge our lives by avoiding these traps!

Let’s look at 6 common ones.

Overthinking…everything (Literally)

Ever spent 20 minutes analyzing a text reply? Or rehearsed a conversation in your head 10 different ways before it even happens? That’s overthinking, and it’s like leaving the faucet running - it drains you drop by drop. It’s mentally exhausting, and most of the time, it doesn’t even solve the problem you’re facing or worrying about!

It’s difficult to stop your mind from spiraling, but it's important to recognize when it is and help redirect your thoughts to a more energy enhancing, productive place. Remember, not everything is worth more than a single thought. Take a deep breath, trust your gut, and let go. No more mental gymnastics.

Comparing

Social media is fun…until it’s not. Scrolling through perfectly filtered lives can make us feel like we’re not doing enough or we don’t have enough. Comparing your behind-the-scenes to someone else’s highlight reel is a sure-fire way to drain your energy and your happiness too. Our world and technological advancements have made it nearly impossible to not compare yourself to someone else. It’s easy and a societal norm. I hear girls at dinner comparing their instagram photos to another girl, talking about if they just had the things so and so had, they’d be happy. Our lives are ticking by as we wait for materialistic things to boost our happiness…all we’re doing along that journey is depleting our confidence.

Here’s the truth: Everyone’s timeline is different, and nobody has it all together all the time. Focus on your journey and celebrate your wins, even the small ones.

Sleeping Late…(Just one more episode)

We’ve all had that late-night Netflix binge or TikTok scroll, thinking, “Just one more episode, I’ll be fine!” Spoiler: You won’t be. Late nights turn into groggy mornings, and before you know it, you’re dragging your feet through the day. Sleep is your body’s recharging station - skipping it is like trying to run your phone on low power mode.

You might’ve heard someone say, “I need to catch up on sleep,” but reality is, that’s not a simple task and can lead to oversleeping - which is also an energy drainer - or a lack of a schedule, or routine. Point is, try to be mindful of your sleep and your excessive screen time. Set a bedtime and stick to it (yes, even on the weekends). You’ll thank yourself eventually.

Ignoring Feelings…yes, even those unwanted ones you keep shoving away

We’re all guilty of this one. You push down those nagging emotions, thinking you’ll deal with them “later” (which is never). But guess what? Those feelings don’t go away - they just hang around like uninvited guests, draining your energy. Feeling sad? Frustrated? Angry? Depressed? It’s okay to feel. It’s normal to go through a wave of emotions, especially if you’re in a stressful, trying period of life.

Emotions piling up is like a volcano ready to erupt. Eventually they’re all going to come out in a mass explosion and probably ruin your day. But lucky for you, you can GET AHEAD of this. Start understanding and analyzing your emotions and why they happen. GET A JOURNAL! Use the journal to work through your day to day life and the emotions that come with it. Dealing with them head-on frees up your mental space for way better things!

Overworking…I know, we live in a hustle culture, but we all need breaks

The “hustle hard” mentality is everywhere, but constantly pushing yourself to the limit is like running on fumes. Sure, we all have busy seasons or a “grind time,” but if your life feels like one giant to-do list, it’s time to reevaluate. No matter what anyone says, balance is key. It’s essential to balance your life appropriately so you can be your best self.

Being a workaholic is glorified in our society, but it won’t help you be more successful. Our success is a combination of a lot of things, not just our work. It has a lot to do with our happiness, mental health, and relationships. Instead, take breaks, go for walks, stretch, and don’t forget to schedule downtime for yourself. A burnt-out version of you isn’t doing anyone any favors, especially not yourself.

Fast Food….because I know it’s “just so easy”

Okay, I get it - I love fast food too. McDonalds, Burger King, and Bojangles…yes, please! It’s quick, convenient, and delicious. But let’s be real, living on processed “quick” foods is not replenishing your nutritional needs or your energy. Sure, the occasional fast food meal in a crunch, or if you’re like me, as a treat, is totally fine. However, it’s really important to avoid consistent fast food meals. A good deal of our energy comes to us from what we’re putting in our bodies. Making homemade meals that you love is a much better option, and you might learn a new skill along the way!
