The Mindful Metrics: How to Measure Success Without Falling Out of Love With What You Do
Share
There was a moment - maybe you’ve had it too - where I realized I wasn’t enjoying the thing I once felt called to do.
Not because the work changed. But because the way I measure “success” did.
Suddenly it was about performance. Pace. Pressure.
I wasn’t celebrating creativity or impact anymore. I was just checking stats. Watching numbers. Asking: “Is this enough?”
That’s when I knew I needed new metrics - ones that didn’t make me fall out of love with my purpose.
When The Hustle Dulls the Spark
Entrepreneurship can be exciting, but also…exhausting. Not just from doing too much - but from constantly measuring your worth through:
-
Numbers on a dashboard
-
How many people said yes
-
What your growth chart looks like
-
How “Busy” your schedule seems
Even when things go well, it can still feel off. Because no one tells you that you can succeed and still feel disconnected.
Enter: The Mindful Metrics
Mindful metrics are questions and reflections that help you track how your business feels, not just how it performs.
They’re not a replacement for analytics - they’re a balance to them.
Here are a few I use regularly:
-
Did I feel energized by what I created this week?
-
Am I building something I still love - or just maintaining momentum?
-
What part of my work made me feel most like me?
-
Did I give myself permission to enjoy the process, not just the outcome?
These don’t show up on a spreadsheet. But they do show up in your attitude, creativity, and consistency.
A 5-Minute Weekly Check-In
Try asking yourself these 3 questions every Friday:
-
What felt good this week - like, actually good?
-
What part of my routine felt forced or heavy?
-
What do I want to feel more of in my business next week?
Keep it simple. It’s not about tracking for the sake of tracking - it’s about checking in before you check out emotionally.
Redefining Progress
Falling out of love with your work doesn’t always mean something’s wrong. Sometimes, it just means you’ve been measuring the wrong things.
Your happiness matters.
Your creative spark matters.
Your passions matter.
The why behind what you do still matters.
And if you track that as intentionally as you track your growth - you’ll stay in love with the process and the progress. Success should feel good. Not just look good. And sometimes, the clearest metrics are the ones that don’t fit on a chart.
