My Monthly Reset Routine: How I start Fresh Every 1st

My Monthly Reset Routine: How I start Fresh Every 1st

There’s something sacred about the start of a new month. While it might just be another day on the calendar, I’ve turned it into a ritual - a moment to pause, check in with myself, and realign. It’s not about becoming a brand new version of myself overnight, but about shedding something that no longer serves me and stepping forward with more clarity. Kinda the way people view new years with new goals and aspirations, that’s how I view each new month.

For me, the first day of the month is like a personal new year, every thirty days. I sit down with my journal (shocker haha) and ask myself one very honest question: What do I need to let go of to grow? That question alone has changed so much about how I move through life. It’s not always a big, dramatic answer. Sometimes it’s small and quiet - like cutting back on habits that drain my energy, or being brave enough to say what I’ve been holding in.

Each month, I give up something. Not out of punishment or guilt, but as a way to practice discipline, intention, and self-awareness. And also to challenge myself. I’ve given up things like DoorDash, impulse shopping, and caffeine - not forever, but long enough to remind myself that I’m in control. Challenging myself in this way helps me be more confident when challenges arise in my day-to-day life, especially when it comes to work. It gives me the confidence and motivation to face those challenges. Seems crazy to say, but it really does train your mind to approach challenges, not run way from them.

I’ve learned that the more I embrace discomfort in small, intentional ways, the less rattled I am by discomfort I can’t control. Whether it’s a tough decision in business, an uncomfortable conversation, or a setback I didn’t see coming, I notice that I feel more capable. That’s because I’ve been practicing. I’ve trained my brain not to see hard things as a threat, but as a chance to stretch. When you become someone who seeks challenge - even in tiny, manageable doses - you start to rewire how you see pressure, responsibility, and risk.

Alongside what I let go of, I set new goals. But I don’t overload myself with unrealistic expectations. Instead, I pick one goal that will push me - not just something I know I can accomplish, but something that makes me a little nervous. Maybe it’s putting myself out there creatively, pitching an idea that I believe in, or simply speaking up in a situation I’d normally stay quiet in. The point is to stretch without snapping - to expand my capacity, one decision at a time.

This kind of monthly reset isn’t about aesthetics or perfection. It’s about becoming mentally stronger. It’s about stepping into each month with the mindset that you can handle whatever’s coming - not because it’ll be easy, but because you’ve chosen to lean in rather than lean away. That confidence isn’t built overnight. It’s built in small, intentional ways - like this.

If you’ve been craving a reset, I encourage you to try it this month. Sit with your journal and ask yourself: What’s one thing I can release this month - and one challenge I can lean into? You don’t need to do everything. You just need to do something that reminds you you’re capable. The first of the month is waiting - meet it with a little courage.
